Marlan picked up clippers for the same reason most great barbers do: a man he respected told him the work mattered. Nearly a decade later, he runs a shop in Mobile that treats barbering as a craft, not a transaction.
He cuts everyone, but his reputation grew on the harder work — restoring hairlines, fitting units, and building a look that holds up in daylight. That earned him clients who had quietly stopped believing their hair could be fixed.
Today he trains other barbers in the same techniques, because the standard only survives if it is passed on.
